Frequently asked questions

  • What is THERMOFLOC?

THERMOFLOC is a certified, high-quality insulation material made of organic cellulose fibers.

  • Where is THERMOFLOC used?

THERMOFLOC cellulose material is used for the insulation of floors, walls, ceilings and roofs.

  • How is THERMOFLOC processed?

Depending on the area of application, THERMOFLOC is processed either manually or by machines.

  • Who carries out the installation? Is it possible to install THERMOFLOC on your own?

Here, one needs to distinguish between the THERMOFLOC blow-in insulation and the THERMOFLOC floor filling.

The THERMOFLOC blow-in insulation is installed by means of specially equipped THERMOBLOW blowing machines operated by certified workers. The insulation is pumped into hoses under air pressure and transported further into the hollow spaces of the building components, where it is compressed in accordance with the material handling instructions to produce an uninterrupted, complete and insulation layer that is open to diffusion.

The THERMOFLOC floor filling is processed by hand and used exclusively as non-pressure resistant insulation at the horizontal level (ceiling on the top storey, between joists in a wood-joist floor construction).

  • Can THERMOFLOC be processed without machines?

THERMOFLOC floor filling is processed by hand. The blow-in insulation material is exclusively installed by means of a specially equipped blowing machine into the hollow spaces.

  • What admixtures does THERMOFLOC contain?

For fire prevention, minerals are added.

  • Who can provide me with an offer?

Our sales partner responsible for your country will be happy to provide you with an offer or immediately forward your enquiry to the relevant person. To find your proper contact person, please send your enquiry to our office@thermofloc.com.

  • What is THERMOFLOC’s thermal performance in comparison with other insulation products?

THERMOFLOC has the same insulation properties as other standard insulating materials made of mineral fibers or EPS products. In addition, it is an organic insulation able to absorb and transmit moisture.

  • What raw materials are used for the manufacture of THERMOFLOC?

THERMOFLOC is made of waste paper and mineral admixtures serving as fire protection.

  • What “seals of approval” does THERMOFLOC carry?

The outstanding quality features of our cellulose insulation have been recognized by European approval and the awarding of the natureplus quality label (link).

  • What is natureplus?

natureplus is the international quality seal for high quality, sustainable building materials, building products and furnishings. Products which carry this label pose no danger to health, are produced in an environmentally-friendly manner and are tested for their functionality. A comprehensive and stringent testing process, according to the strictest of criteria, ensures that these products fulfil these high requirements.

The natureplus quality seal is only issued to building and accommodation-related products which are comprised of a minimum of 85% of renewable raw materials or mineral based materials which are almost unlimited in their availability. This is intended to underline the sustainable availability of these products and thereby their applicability for the future. Independent of the natureplus quality seal, the product must also display a declaration of the contents in order to enable an accurate classification of the products by the consumer.

  • How does its thermal performance compare to that of mineral wool?

As well as offering at least the same high level of insulation as mineral-fiber based products, THERMOFLOC features additional advantages with regard to building biology.

  • Can Thermofloc be used for cavity walling?

THERMOFLOC can not be used for cavity wall insulation in every country. Please contact our office for detailed information about building regulations in your country.
